Graeme High School - A Helix champion school
8 October 2012

Graeme High School are presented with their Champion School
certificate by Grace Macdonald, Head of Community Engagement for
The Helix.
It takes a lot of work to organise extra school activity, and
The Helix likes to recognise this work with the Helix Champion
School award.
Graeme High School won their Champion Award for their efforts
in developing the Helix Transition Programme.
This programme takes place during the transition phase from P7
into S1 - pupils take part in a 2 day learning programme built
around the Helix.
Pupils worked on Helix projects within various school subjects,
including:
- A Helix Powerpoint presentation, in French
- A Helix activities board
- Poetry inspired by nature and the seasons
- Their own Helix inspired poems
- 3D sculptures from various sites in the Helix
- A Helix based comic strip, produced digitally
- A booklet about the Helix for tourists or families in the
area
- A science project extracting DNA, and learning where the Helix
got its name
- Learning to play the background music for the Helix film
clip
- Selected and designed the most appropriate seating layout
- An orienteering activity to promote outdoor activity
Graeme High plans to continue this project with every new intake
of pupils - an excellent way for pupils to get to know all the
assets available to them at secondary school.
