Dunipace Primary School Orchard - Learning to
Achieve project
Pupils and teachers were successful in 2010 in receiving support
from Grounds for Learning to learn more about Scotland's orchard
history. The 2 year projct involved the children in a wide range of
activities including research, storytelling, visits to heritage
orchards, art work, grafting new fruit trees, apple pressing and
juice tasting, photography and event organising.
The school then planned, designed, planted and mainitained an
orchard containing 10 traditional Scottish fruit varieties, right
in the school grounds.
All of the children were able to get involved in the project,
and the project has provided a more meaningful context for the
children to learn about fruit trees, orchards and biodiversity.
The great thing about the orchard is it will provide a high
quality learning environment for years to come, with space to add
to the orchard over time.
