Woodland memories preserved for future generations

Posted Tuesday 25th May 2010

'Do you remember how it used to be?
Down the loan for you and me
The hot summer days
And the right of ways....'

This extract from a poem by Bainsford Area Reminiscence Group member Margaret Meek was inspired by the renewed interest in the Abbotshaugh woodland, brought about by the Helix project.

The group are now seeking to make a permanent record of the recent history of the woodland, including the farm fields that existed before it, for the benefit of future generations.

The group plan to interview several people who either lived, worked or devoted their time to looking after the woodland area. These interviews will be stored for future use and it is hoped they will also form part of an exhibition before the end of the Helix project so that local people can reflect on the greater history of the area.

If you know of anyone who has lived in the area for a long time or who worked on any of the previous community projects in the woodland, and would be willing to share their memories, then please contact 01324 508628.
