Provost walks the talk
Falkirk Provost Pat Reid led from the front when he joined the Helix Green Team for a Big Fit Walk on Friday 11th June.
The Provost was joined by Leader of the Council Craig Martin and councillors Allyson Black, Cecil Meiklejohn and Billy Buchanan.
The chief executive of the Helix Trust, Colin Armstrong, was also there to show his support.
The 40-minute circular walk started and finished at the Kelpie maquettes by canal lock 2.
It marked the end of a busy week for the Helix Green Team. On Wednesday 9th June the group had travelled through to Holyrood for a Big Fit Walk with MSPs.
The Big Fit Walk is a community health promotion event which runs in conjunction with Step Forth and Braveheart local walking initiatives. The aim is to encourage as many people as possible to step out and take a 30-minute, two-mile walk in their local area.
The first ever Big Fit Walk was held in June 2004 in Grangemouth. The 2010 walk attracted over 10,000 participants throughout Scotland.
The Helix was delighted to host one of Falkirk’s walks. One of the key aims of the project is to encourage better lifestyle choices which encompass health, exercise and the arts.
