Get Involved

Volunteer

The Helix wants people from all walks of life to play an active part in the project. Here are some of the ways to get involved.

Volunteering

The Helix seeks volunteers from all walks of life, such as children and young people, people with disabilities, ethnic minorities and older people.

Some potential volunteering opportunities already identified include wildlife surveys, planting schemes, litter picks, heritage walks and guided tours.

Helix volunteers Vivien Murchison (far left), Tracey Fullerton (second right) and Alex Russell were recognised at Falkirk's 12th Annual Volunteering Awards. With them at the 2011 ceremony was Grace Macdonald, Helix head of community engagement.

The Helix is also looking to engage with local communities, schools, special interest groups, children and students in the process of recording activity and change.

Design Reference Groups

Reference Groups will be formed for key Helix developments, particularly in the greenspace where local people will work with professional design teams and Helix staff to test ideas and carry out site audits and surveys.

The Groups will continue to monitor the progress of the plans and celebrate success along the way.

Community stewardship

The aim is to encourage people to take an active role in nurturing and bringing the Helix to life for others, including future generations.

Neighbourhood groups will be supported to promote a broad-based and sustainable approach to land management, maintenance and community safety.
